Saving Funds With Flourescents | Not Merely A Dull Flicker Anymore

Fluorescent lights no longer give just a dull flicker. Yes they are the ecological option to incandescent light bulbs, but they can also be funky and are a favourite of current designers. So why are they a good environmental alternative, and what’s so cool about them?

Any electrician will tell you that fluorescent lights have a tendency to last four to ten times as long as normal (filament) light bulbs and use about 20% of the energy. The trouble with incandescent light bulbs is that 95% of the electricity they use is lost through heat and only 5% is in fact utilized to light up a room.

Despite the fact that fluorescent bulbs are more costly to buy at first, they will save you cash in the long run, usually paying for themselves in under a year. And they fit in nearly all existing light fittings, so you won’t even call for an electrician to change your fittings.

One more direct green advantage is that because the light bulbs last so much longer they make less waste for the garbage dump as less are being tossed away every year. And once you’re fitting them and doing your bit, you may even feel so green and environmentally alert that you take your tasks further and turn lights off when they’re not being utilized.

When you do want to toss away fluorescent light bulbs then endeavor and do so correctly. Unlike normal light bulbs, they contain a small amount of mercury which is environmentally damaging if they are binned, so ask your local council about recycling facilities for light bulbs and do your bit to keep them out of the garbage dump.

Now for the fun part! FL lights are fantastic if you want to make a colour wash on the wall or against curtains. They can be recessed so that the luminosity seems to come magically from a concealed supply and if the light shines against a reflective facade, you can produce a really spectacular effect. You can also talk to your electrician about installing more than one fluorescent tube so that you have a option of colours at your fingertips.

FL lights of course come in white but also four basic colours – red, yellow, green and blue. If none of these suit your plan, you might put a white light following a coloured filter of your choice or even get coloured theatrical lighting gel which can be applied to the bulb to achieve the effect you’re after. There are even companies that sell bulbs previously coated, offering a range of colours if you can’t face doing it yourself.

If you’re putting together a lighting design bear in mind that fluorescent white light tends to appear cool rather than warm. FL bulbs can be included into a dimmer plan when of course they turn out to be less bright, but they won’t make a warm glow like a normal bulb. As well as being put onto dimmers your electrician could go one step further and incorporate them into a plan of pre-set scenes to generate several mood alternatives for your room.

The fact is that in 2007 the US Administration announced that normal light bulbs are to be barred by 2011, which should help save around 5 million tons of CO2 by US domestic users alone. So it makes sense to get ready now for this new age in lighting. Light bulbs in the US are now graded A-G for green efficiency, so it’s easy to pick ones that do less damage and that will save you cash in the mid and long term. And it doesn’t mean living in darkness – fluorescent lights have come a long way since their flickering beginnings.

Massage therapy is probably one of the oldest methods of healing and rejuvenation. Its roots can be traced back to 2000 BC where it was used by the Romans. It has been used as a method to help ease aches, pains and relieve tension in the body. With the advance of technology, massage chairs are now available which include many massage techniques as well as supplemental treatments for wellness.

Reduce Back Pain: back pain is one of the most commonly reported occupational injuries in the United States. The muscles of the lower back become stiff which leads to discomfort. The flexibility of these muscles needs to be restored to help reduce the incidence of back pain. Massage chairs have a number of techniques which are used to help elongate the muscle and soft tissue areas. This helps to restore their prior flexibility.

Shoulder & Neck Massage: Many people have tension and stiffness in their shoulders and neck. The muscles become tight and tense. A kneading massage is used to help loosen the tight muscles of the shoulders and neck. This provides a side to side squeezing motion which is very soothing and relaxing.

How Long Does It Take To Plan A Wedding?

Posted by Randolph Quan on June 29th, 2009 filed in Wedding

There’s no standard answer to the question “How long does it take to plan a wedding?” After all, circumstances unique to the bride and groom play a large factor in the planning timeline. Weddings have been planned in as little as a few weeks – or a few days for an elopement – or years, if the couple so chooses.

However, if you’re asking “how long does it take to plan a wedding without any extra stress?” the answer is easier: At least a year. The average length of time couples are taking to plan a wedding these days is 16 months. Why so long? For one, many desirable reception venues book up far in advance. Also, weddings have become more of an event these days than they were in years past, and that takes time to plan.

For the bride who is planning approximately a year’s worth of time, here’s the standard timeline:

One year before.

One year before – Set a tentative date (though be aware it could change) Choose your style and formality. Work out your budget before talking to any vendors. Start a tentative guest list. Reserve your officient. Select your bridal party and let them know which events they need to be involved in. Shop for wedding reception venues. Shop for your dress, schedule fittings. Shop for bridesmaid dresses. Search for wedding vendors by starting with photographers

Nine months before – Finalize guest list and gather addresses. Register for gifts at your preferred stores. Select and order the attire for the groom and his groomsmen. Finalize vendors, put down deposits. Schedule engagement photos. Research honeymoon preferences. Select and order invitations

Six months before – Prepare documents to go inside invitations (maps, directions, additional information) Meet with all wedding vendors to finalize orders. Order wedding cake if not provided by the caterer. Coordinate parents’ attire. Book honeymoon. Send save-the-date announcements. Book rehearsal dinner location. Order wedding rings

Four months before. Book block of hotel rooms for out-of-town guests. Arrange final dress fittings. Order wedding favors and bridal party gifts.

Two months before – Send invitations. Book appointments with beauticians for day of wedding. Schedule a make-up trial. Assign your “wedding day assistant,” someone who isn’t in the bridal party who can help you on your wedding day.

One month before – Confirm all ceremony and reception bookings. Finalize rehearsal dinner details. Draw up seating arrangements for reception. Go to hair and make-up trial. Choose a date to get your marriage license with your fiance’. Start gathering RSVPS.

Two-three weeks before – Pick up wedding rings. Have final dress fitting. Confirm all arrival times and final arrangements with vendors.

One week before – Give caterer final head count. Pack bags for honeymoon. Ask bridal party to help with post-wedding tasks. Make arrangements for wedding gifts to be delivered to your home.

1-2 days before – Double-check honeymoon arrangements such as hotel and flight details. Write checks for vendors and give to wedding day assistant. Put together an “emergency kit” with all essentials. Attend rehearsal dinner. Create phone list of wedding vendors and give to your assistant.

Learning the Basic Denmark Local Customs

Before going on a trip to Denmark, it’s a good idea not just to prepare your suitcase and itinerary but also to learn a bit about Danish culture. Here are some of the most popular Denmark local customs so you’ll know how to act properly while enjoying your stay there.

One of the Denmark local customs you should know is how to greet other people in Denmark. Danes use first names so make sure you introduce yourself by your first name when asked and refer to others in the same way. Also, rather than giving someone a peck on the cheek, simply shake his or her hand, since kisses on the cheek are often reserved for couples and relatives.

You should also keep in mind that Danes regard loud and passionate behavior in public as a form of disrespect, and will scold you when needed. Therefore, do your best to talk in moderate tones and to express intimate gestures only in private places or bars.

When in a public transport, such as a bus or train, avoid sitting beside a stranger if there are still other seats available, as this is one of the Denmark local customs. Also, refrain from starting a conversation with a stranger. Although your intentions may be friendly, you might be viewed as someone intrusive. When talking to Danes, try to avoid bragging or sharing too much personal information, too.

Punctuality is another important part of Denmark local customs. Indeed, there are few things Danes hate more than someone who is not on time so avoid being late when you are meeting someone, whether it’s for business or social reasons. You will also notice that establishments close on the dot, so it’s best to be aware of store and restaurant hours.

Danes frown upon queue jumpers, as well, so go to the end of the queue and stick to your place or grab a queue number card when entering a store or office. If you really are in a hurry, ask politely to be let ahead.

Last but not least, be mindful of your manners when at table. It is good dining etiquette, as well as a part of Denmark local customs, to keep your wrists at the edge of the table, try everything you are offered and put your knife and fork properly across your plate when you are finished eating. Most importantly, finish everything on your plate or you might offend someone.

The Danes may not pay attention to formality but they definitely value courtesy, which is why it is good to follow Denmark local customs. This can help you make Danish friends, too, which can make your holidays in Denmark truly one to remember.

How To Get Relief From Hyperhidrosis

Posted by Karen V. Douglas on June 26th, 2009 filed in health

Anyone who has ever suffered from excessive sweating has been insecure or embarrassed one time or another. Even if you’ve done a good job hiding it, you had to wear three or four layers of clothing, which eventually made it worse. Both genders have this problem, but there are ways to stop excessive sweating and prevent it from coming back.

First of all, before we look at how to stop excessive sweating, it’s important that you are able to tell what is normal sweating and what excessive sweating is. Everyone normally sweats. This can occur in stressful situations, when engaged in strenuous activities, or in situations where the temperature is very warm. Sweating is very normal in these situations.

Unfortunately there are individuals who have to deal with sweating just because they’re alive. See, if you have excessive sweating, then you could be sweating like crazy while sitting in an ice box. Seriously, there is nothing worse then going about your day and having to head to the bathroom every 15 minutes because your armpits are continuously wet.

Then again, it could be something that is hereditary. If you find out this is the case, then the word “hyperhidrosis” will come to mind. However, it’s also important to understand that there are different types of hyperhidrosis. You can either have the version that makes you continuously sweat in certain locations, or all over the body.

As we mentioned, there are other physical problems that can cause excessive sweating to occur. A few of these problems can include cancer, heart disease, or thyroid problems. It’s important to rule out these problems before you try methods to stop excessive sweating. This is why it may be a good idea to see a physician about the problems that you are dealing with.

One thing that you can do to help stop excessive sweating is to avoid situations that are very stressful. Often these situations can make your problem worse. The problem is that for some people this turns into a fear of being in social situations. While your self esteem may be low, you don’t want to become a hermit, so it is a good idea to work on your fear of being in public. This way you make social situations more stressful for yourself, leading to even more sweating.

Another step to take is asking your doctor about stronger deodorants. No one wants to stink, and no one wants to have everyone looking at their armpits and neck area all day long. Regular deodorants may not have the proper ingredients for you, which is why it’s important to utilize stronger versions. Just ask about the side effects before taking the next step.

You may not think about this, but changing the way you eat could make all the difference as well. Grab a pen and pad, then write down your weekly food intake. Also keep track of the times when your sweating is out of control. When you compare the two you may find that something needs to be removed from your diet.

We could go over all sorts of different scenarios and problematic solutions to help you get back to normal. However, if you want to stop excessive sweating, we recommend taking advantage of natural treatments. It will keep you from utilizing chemicals and other treatments that can be dangerous to your health in the long run. If you really want to stop excessive sweating, then start changing the little things that produce the biggest issues.

How To Decorate A Bachelor’s Home

Posted by Henry Murray on June 25th, 2009 filed in family
Comment now »

Women usually dominate the realm of interior design, but that doesn’t mean that guys can’t have their own well-designed and attractive homes. Decor for a male space, however, can be quite difficult; pastel-colored walls and fancy trinkets are seen more as emasculating than elegant. Florals and intricate patterns are out of the question, yet the space must somehow be made vibrant and interesting. As you can see, creativity is a crucial element when decorating a masculine room.

Start by browsing through magazines to get ideas on how to decorate your space. If you’re really allergic to anything floral and frilly, don’t bother going through those hyper-trendy publications. Go with magazines that you would actually buy and enjoy reading yourself. Even male interest magazines occasionally feature tips and guides on how to decorate an interior. Ideas, though, can come from anywhere. Even the backdrops and scenes they use for print ads can become the inspiration for your new space.

Ideas for designing a bachelor’s pad can be from magazines, TV programs, exhibits and showrooms. The choices are numerous, even those catering for men’s taste in home interiors. Don’t be discouraged by the promulgation of frills, satins, lace, light colors and other feminine displays in the market. There are still many specially made to make a man’s home look more appealing.

A guy’s place is expectedly of a minimalist style. Understandably so, men can’t be bothered with details and too many things. Therefore, choosing the right items is vital to make up for the minimal presentation of decorations. One versatile decor are area rugs, great for any theme and color scheme. Usually though, men would go for a dark or neutral area rug with little or no design. Solid color and plain design work well with the masculine approach of the interiors.

If there’s one decor that is hassle-free, functional and attractive, area rug is the “it” item. A minimally decorated bachelor’s pad will look better with area rugs in strategic places. For instance, a large area rug in the middle of the living room is a direct eye-catcher. An area rug in the bedroom and kitchen can make these rooms cozier and inviting in a snap.

Masculine rooms, however, can also tend to be too masculine, making them seem sterile and unwelcoming. Curtains help solve this problem by breaking up the color and adding a softer texture to the room. A neutral color or a simple stripe pattern works best so that the curtain is distinct but doesn’t clash. An even better idea is to coordinate or match the color of your curtain to that of your rug to pull your walls and your floor together.

Lastly, complete the bachelor’s pad decorations with wall arts. Paintings and photographs top the list, but other pieces like an area rug as a wall hanging also make a nice impression.
